I wrote this a while back but never posted it.....better late than never!

OVERALL IMPRESSIONS
  • Last year, we had some hold ups and missed our judging time for the Hall cosplay. They refused to let us compete, and from that point things really just went down hill (Bllacksheep had gotten no sleep that he literally fell asleep in the middle of a photoshoot, hah). However this year, Anime Boston was a BLAST! From meeting cosplay friends, photoshoots, and the Hall cosplay, things were all around pretty enjoyable this year! >

EVENTS
  • We focused putting out efforts into booking some really good photographers this year. It was our first time wearing out Dante's Inferno costume and we wanted to make sure we had some really nice photos to take home with us! We didn't get to partake in as many shoots as we wanted (and one of our photographers actually bailed :/ ), but the photo turn out was awesome!

HALL COSPLAY
  • We actually won something this year! Hah! After competing year after year and getting no recognition, we thought about our costumes it a lot this time. The same critique we always get from the Judges over and over is that "There is not enough sewing!". So we went less prop centric this year and made sure all the clothing elements were completely hand made. I'm not sure if that's what did the trick, I kind of hope not because it really hurts to think that these convention contest really herald sewing over prop-making,  but it was nice surprise nonetheless!

 OUR COSTUMES
  • Wearing a costume for the first time is always an adventure within itself. You always discover things that don't work, break or are just unwearable. Bllacksheep's straps kept cutting off circulation on his arms, and I discovered how difficult it was to walk in an exact form fitting dress, hahaha. But by the end of the weekend, we were totally masters in wearing then. We're definitely going to make some alterations and finish up the pieces of the costumes that we didn't bring to AB.... but for the most part, pretty good!

PERSONAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • One thing that really stuck with me after the convention was actually a negative experience. A pair of Master category cosplayers came up to Bllacksheep and I on the last day of the convention and really just bragged about themselves to no end. We tried to smile and enthuse about their costumes with them, but it was really just upsetting to see intensely egoistical and rude cosplayers. One of them told us that if they had won, they wouldn't have needed the prizes because they get all of their cosplay materials for free (implying because they are "just that good"). At which point, they proceeded to brag about the largest awards they have ever won, tell us that they never loose competitions, and told us about their wall of trophies that they love looking at. ......Heh. I felt the need to mention this not to shame the individuals who acted this way, but to encourage cosplayers in general not to be total douches when it comes to cosplay. Sure it's fun to be competitive and yes, objectively some cosplayers are better than others when it comes to craft. But why rub it in and turn it into a power game? How insecure are you? Just take a chill pill, bro. Let's keep this fun!
